No cash rewards for employees in FY21, FBR says

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has changed its plan of giving cash reward-honoraria to its employees. 

This was informed by the FBR in a letter to all field formations, Inland Revenue Service-Pakistan Customs Service (IRS-PCS).

The competent authority has directed that no sanctioned-unsanctioned amount of cash reward-honoraria be disbursed by any field formations of FBR (IRS & PCS),the letter stated. 

Earlier, the FBR had communicated that in order to give meritorious reward to the officials in BS 1-19, their performance would be categorised on a solid basis in three categories; A, B & C. 

Officials said that the tax department usually sanctions around Rs500 million cash reward to more than 20,000 employees every year, but no reward was given this time due to the “unsatisfactory performance” of the tax collectors.  

FBR is likely to collect around Rs3.908 trillion tax in this fiscal year, as against the original target of Rs5.55 trillion. 

On the other hand, sources said, FBR was also taking into account the fact the finance ministry did not award any honoraria to its employees, including those who prepared the budget.

Sources said that FBR had withdrawn the cash reward for field formations once the pressure had increased.
